A Marmoset Is Born

Lucy, our female common marmoset, is a first-time mom—and she’s doing amazing!
The baby is doing great, safely clinging to its parents’ backs. In common marmosets, both mom and dad take turns caring for and carrying their young—and Chong, the father, is already very involved.
In this species native to South America, births often result in twins, and the whole family helps raise the young. Marmosets live in groups and form strong family bonds.
Another fascinating fact: marmosets are among the few primates that feed on tree sap. Thanks to their specialized teeth, they can gnaw into bark to access this energy-rich resource.
For now, the baby stays close and warm with its parents… but with a bit of luck, you might catch a glimpse during your visit to the zoo.
